It’s my birth month, and the creative juices have been flowing lately! Something about this time of year always sparks a fresh wave of inspiration, and I’ve been following where it leads. Lately, that’s meant diving into a mix of painting, drawing, and digital work—combining all the things I love into something new. That’s how my mixed media collage kits came to life.
I’ve always been drawn to textures and layers, the way different materials interact to create something unexpected. When I paint, I rarely have a set plan. I let the colors and brushstrokes lead the way, experimenting with different techniques on watercolor paper. Some pieces come out bold and expressive, while others have a softer, dreamier feel. It’s all about capturing movement and emotion in an abstract way.
Once I have a collection of painted papers, I start incorporating other elements. I’ve been working with digital art for a while now, so I love bringing in prints on heavy cardstock and even canvas. These pieces add structure and contrast to the more fluid, hand-painted textures. Then there are the hand-drawn elements—little sketches, line work, and doodles that give each kit a personal touch. And, of course, I couldn’t resist adding something a little nostalgic: painted music sheets. There’s something magical about repurposing old pages, giving them new life with layers of color and pattern.
The first sets I put together are all cat-themed (because, honestly, how could I not?), but I already have so many ideas for what’s next. Dogs, coffee, ice cream—there are endless possibilities for themes, and I’m excited to keep exploring and creating.
This whole process has been a reminder of why I love mixed media so much. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. It’s about play, experimentation, and letting intuition take over. And the best part? Seeing how others take these pieces and make them their own.
So here’s to another year of creativity, exploration, and making art that surprises me. If you’re feeling inspired, grab some scraps, mix some materials, and see where your own creative energy takes you.
